Homeopathy and EU Directives

Homeopathic medicinal products are fully recognised as medicinal products in the Pharmaceutical Directive 2004/27/EC. The therapeutic system and working principles of homeopathy are different from allopathic medicine. It is possible to prove quality and safety in a similar way, but the proof of effectiveness needs a different approach. Because of the specific way in which homeopathic medicinal products are used and prepared, these medicines cannot be registered according to the requirements of a regular medicine. Therefore the Directive offers specific rules. The manufacturing rules and the quality control of homeopathic medicines are laid down in the current European Pharmacopoeia and the German homeopathic pharmacopoeia (HAB) or the French Pharmacopoeia (PhF).  http://www.echamp.org/faq.php
