Homeopathy is putting people's lives at risk, warns top scientist

7th December 2007

(Leave your comment on the Website)

The Government's most senior scientist today warned that homeopathic medicine was putting lives at risk.

Sir David King said the alternative medicine, whose supporters include Prince Charles and novelist Jeanette Winterson, was of no medical use whatsoever.

There is no understanding in these discussions of the homeopathic repertory, the materia medica and the homeopathic provings.  Every remedy has to undergo a Proving in order to discover its healing properties.  This entails 50-100 people going away and repeatedly taking a 30c of a remedy until they develop symptoms which must be recorded later in a database.  No Prover must discuss these symptoms with the others.  Whatever symptoms they all experience are entered into the materia medica as being the symptoms relating to the remedy.  Then you get someone who is ill with those symptoms and they are cured on the basis of 'like cures like'.

Homeopathy cures through stimulating the body's own healing powers, the potentised remedy acts as a catalyst to promote healing.

People seem also unaware that as far back as the 5th century BC, Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, stated there are two forms of healing:  The Law of Opposites (orthodox medicine) and the Law of Similars (homeopathy).

Another point is the negligible amount of insurance claims against homeopaths compared to medical doctors.  So where is this terrible risk Sir David talks of?!  Sir David who is so close to the GM companies like Monsanto.

I don't know if people are aware that many homeopaths are well educated people who already have university degrees before they train.

When the NHS was formed in 1948, provision was made for homeopathy as long as there were patients who wanted it.  From what I gather there have been YEAR LONG WAITING LISTS at the homeopathic hospitals which are now under threat - thanks to a group of senior 'rational' scientists.  Hospitals that are not mired in MRSA.  Two years ago the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital carried out a study of 6500 patients and found the overall improvement in health to be 70%.

Finally the Lancet trial in 2005 only based their conclusion on 8 out of 110 trials - dismissing 102 positive trials - how scientific is that?!

Responses from signatories to Homeopathy motion

November 19, 2007

This year 206 MPs signed a motion advocating support for NHS homeopathic hospitals (the motion, and signatories, are here). I sent them all the following email:
