Statement on the winding up of CORH

The Council of Organisations Registering Homœopaths (CORH) was established in 1999 as an inclusive body, with as many bodies registering homœopaths as possible being represented, and with representation by Course Providers, patient representatives and independent advisors. It was created to establish a Single Register and Regulatory Body.

The work of CORH is now done. The various guidelines, standards, processes and procedures have been written. This preliminary phase has been successfully completed. An Accreditation Handbook had been developed and successfully trialed at two colleges. That system has now become a quasi-independent Homœopathy Accreditation Board. CPD Guidelines have been published. A Code of Ethics and Practice has been published, and Registration Guidelines and processes developed.

It was agreed last year that when these tasks had been completed, CORH would cease to operate and the new body, known as the Council of Registered Homœopaths (CoRH), would be brought into existence. This new body, CoRH, would take over the task of administering the Single Register and Regulatory System as developed. For this purpose, a company was registered at Companies House with the CoRH name. A timetable detailing this planned transition can be found on the CORH website (www.corh.org.uk/diary.html). Regrettably, these dates have been allowed to slip somewhat.

On Monday the 3rd of September, a final meeting of CORH Council was held to formally propose the winding up of CORH and established a sub-committee of four people to carry out the tasks necessary to close down the organisation and discharge all of its financial obligations.

A meeting will be planned and called in the near future to establish the effective operation of the new CoRH and to appoint officers to the Board. It is proposed that CoRH will commence registration of homœopaths from existing registers without delay. A new, independent Chair will be proposed, who will provide the leadership and direction required in this second phase of the CORH/CoRH project.

It is vital to the success of CoRH that we maintain our inclusivity of approach, and that all members of the homœopathic community lend their full support and commitment to the new Single Register and Regulatory Body. It has been affirmed twice in recent meetings by all the participants of those meetings that this is the case.

It would be extremely damaging and destructive of the unified approach, if any one organisation or group were to break ranks and attempt to set up a rival Register at this point. At this time, directors of the ARH have set up a so-called ‘Single Register’. It should be emphasised in the strongest possible terms that this is not the new CoRH, the result of the collaboration of all the existing Registers, but is a unilateral attempt to pre-empt the new Register. This ‘Register of Homeopaths’ has no standing or credibility and does not serve the homœopathy profession in any way.  Do not be misled into joining it.

There have been many rumours and factually incorrect statements put about in recent times regarding CORH and its status. It is hoped that the above statement will correct many of those rumours and inaccuracies.
