close its Aspartame manufacturing facility located in the
Netherlands. According to the financial pages of the
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the move is due to a
"structural oversupply" in the global aspartame
markets, which
has caused "worldwide strong price erosion over the
last 5
years". Perhaps recent renewed doubts over cancer
causing
properties and other side effects of the sweetener, which is
used instead of sugar in a huge number of 'diet' foods and
drinks, had something to do with the oversupply - Betty
