Patients in Northern Ireland are to get more access to
alternative therapies under a new scheme announced by the health minister. Paul Goggins is setting aside £200,000 to
enable patients to receive complementary services as part of their health
service treatment. It means GPs can refer patients for therapies such as
acupuncture and homeopathy.

commenting on reports in the BBC and the Daily Telegraph newspaper, in the UK,
are claiming that a ‘test customer’ from Leeds General Infirmary hospital was
given inappropriate advice on the treatment for depression by a number of
health stores in the city. They conclude that their study “raises concerns
about the virtually complete separation and independence of complementary
medicine services from the National Health Service and pharmaceutical
agencies.” In reality, of course, complete separation and independence of
natural therapies from the pharma-dominated national health services is
precisely what health freedom is all about. As such, the very fact that some
so-called “researchers” are now resorting to these tactics is strongly
suggestive of the fact that the pharma industry is beginning to get desperate.
