Consultation on proposals for managing the coexistence of GM, conventional and
organic crops Dear DEFRA, I have been sent an email which says that the
period for consultation on GM crops expires on 20th October 2006. I
am told that GM crops are to be introduced into the UK after that date. I do seem to remember that there was in fact a
public debate on GM crops a couple of years ago where the public
stated unequivocally that THEY DON'T WANT THEM!! Something like 89% of
the public who attended those meetings were against any genetically
modified crops. Introducing them into the environment will contaminate
not only organic crops but indeed the entire countryside. The whole
ecosystem will be affected including all wildlife. We already know that
there is a huge reduction in butterflies, birds, insects and wild creatures
because of pollution and chemicals in the environment. The further step of
introducing genetically modified food will be the final nail in the coffin for
Nature. The public does not want to eat food that has had its
structure altered with unknown consequences upon our digestion and our
health. It is a LIE that food will be plentiful and cheap when GM is
introduced. Countries that have planted GM food in sizeable
areas have made their soil infertile forever, people living nearby have grown
sick and animals have died. How can you seriously expect anyone to believe that man
can improve on God's creations? It is as though the world is being run by
imbeciles who have no thought of the long term consequences of their
actions. Either that or they want mass starvation. Louise Mclean Editor Zeus Information Service ______________________________________________________________ Further reading: Illness blamed on GM crops

October deadline Hello everyone, A very important deadline is coming up: 20th October 2006.
This day will mark the end of the government's consultation on the introduction
of commercially grown GM crops. http://www.foe.co.uk/resource/press_releases/government_gm_consultation_21072006.html After that date all contributions to the consultation will
be considered and a decision made. The proposal is to allow a toleration level
of 0.9% GM contamination of the conventional and organic food industry. They
call this 'coexistence'. The decision, if proposals are agreed, would definitely
allow GM crops to be grown commercially in the UK. No further hurdles, no more
rounds, this is it. It's time to make your voice heard. You can contribute to the consultation by writing to DEFRA
at :- Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs GM Policy Team Zone 4/E5 Ashdown House 123 Victoria Street London SW1E 6DE or e-mail: GMcoexistence@defra.gsi.gov.uk You need to say that you are responding to the 'Consultation
on proposals for managing the coexistence of GM, conventional and organic
crops'. It doesn't have to be a long letter, just a note expressing
your opinion could make a lot of difference. Every letter received counts as
representing the opinions of thousands who do not write. If you write you
too will represent thousands of others and make the total voice much
louder. See my letter, attached, if you want a starting point. Please find a moment to make your contribution and to help
preserve the our industry. Best wishes and please pass this on to anyone who can help, Caroline Gaskin ____________________________________________________ Government GM
consultation slammed Jul 20 2006
A Government consultation launched today, on how GM and non-GM crops can `co-exist'
in England, is a thinly disguised attempt to allow GM crops in through the back
door, warned Friends of the Earth. http://www.foe.co.uk/resource/press_releases/government_gm_consultation_21072006.html Zeus
